Insider Reporting (SEDI)

The System for Electronic Disclosure by Insiders (SEDI) is Canada’s on-line, browser-based service for the filing and viewing of insider trading reports as required by various provincial securities rules and regulations. SEDI replaces paper-based reporting and provides for a more efficient and timely disclosure process.

The reporting of insider trading serves two important investing functions:

  1. It provides transparency and information to the market about the trading activity of directors, senior officers or significant shareholders of reporting issuers.
  2. It deters insider trading on confidential information, since insiders know that they will be required to disclose their trades.

SEDI was designed to reduce the previously onerous paper filing system and streamline the reporting process.

Assistance

Users needing assistance should access SEDI’s online help. From any page on SEDI, click on the “Help” button on the upper right-hand corner to access information about SEDI.

Telephone support is also available. For regulatory assistance and functional or navigational issues, SEDI users in Ontario can call the OSC at 1-877-785-1555; the AMF at 1 877 525-0337; the ASC at 403-297-2489 or the BCSC at 604-899-6854 (Inquiries Group) or Toll free: 1-800-373-6393. Users can contact the CSA Service Desk at 1-800-219-5381 for registration, technical support or password and access key resets.

During a SEDI filing session, do not use the browser back or forward buttons to navigate, as that will cause SEDI to display an error message and you will need to start your filing from the beginning. Navigate using the buttons found on the page.

Those viewing public reports can rely on the back and forward buttons of their browser.

Use the tab key to negotiate different menus, rather than the “Enter” or carriage return key.

Security Features

SEDI includes a number of safety features to protect the integrity of filed information. This includes personal passwords, automatic logging out after 20 minutes of inactivity and deletion of data that is not certified.
