How to search for issuer information in SEDAR+

No more searching multiple systems, websites and databases. When SEDAR+ is live, finding the issuer information you need is simple. Just start with the SEDAR+ homepage (www.sedarplus.ca – coming soon) and you will be pointed in the right direction.

Simplifying your experience with SEDAR+

SEDAR+ brings SEDAR, the Cease Trade Order (CTO) database, Disciplined List (DL) reporting issuer lists from all jurisdictions, and local Report of Exempt Distribution (RED) filing systems – under one digital roof.

From the SEDAR+ homepage, anyone can search for public issuer information by profiles, filings and documents. Also, you can search for companies subject to a cease trade order or disciplined actions against companies and/or individuals. And the results are all connected. Issuer profiles will highlight CTOs and disciplinary actions, and link to further details. Similarly, each CTO and disciplinary action will list the relevant issuer, with a link back to the issuer’s profile.

The complex journey to get here

While SEDAR+ simplifies the experience for users, the process of bringing together large amounts of data from multiple systems is highly complex.

Over the years, the type of information regulators require and the ways in which we collect it have changed significantly. In the past, each system, website and database operated independently.

Behind the scenes at the CSA, our technical and industry experts have been working together to tackle the challenge of moving all those different types of data to one web-based system.

Integrated approach

The result is an integrated approach. All public issuer information is available for anyone who wants it and their starting point is SEDAR+. The search option you use to find that information – depends on how old it is.

The vast majority of information that most people will be looking for can be found in SEDAR+, including:

  • Issuer profiles, Cease Trade Orders, the Disciplined List
  • All filing documents filed on or after January 1, 2015.
  • Certain filings that are frequently referenced and not subject to a time limit. See the list.
  • All prospectuses and applications filed on SEDAR since January 1, 1997.
  • Through a link to a searchable archive, all public historical data filed prior to SEDAR’s retirement on July 20, 2023. This includes documents filed prior to January 1, 2015 that are not migrated to SEDAR+.

The bottom line

The SEDAR+ project is highly complex and requires thoughtful management of large amounts of data. The work happening behind the scenes will lead to an improved user experience by providing a single point of access to issuer filings, with improved search functionality and an integrated view of issuer information.

And the wait is almost over. SEDAR+ launches July 25.
