Enhancing the SEDAR+ Search experience

When SEDAR+ launched on July 25, it changed how investors, other public users and filers search for issuer information in Canada’s capital markets. Rather than searching multiple databases, web sites and systems to find the information needed to make informed investment decisions, this information is moving under one digital roof.

With this change comes a learning curve – for all of us. Since launch, we’ve been listening to feedback from our users to identify what is working well and what could be better. We have developed new resources to help you navigate the new system, and in December, we will start making changes that enhance the search experience for everyone.

SEDAR+ Search: What’s new

Before SEDAR+, investors and other public users had to search numerous systems and databases to find issuer information. In addition to new filings that have been completed and profiles that have been created since July 25, the following information can be accessed at www.sedarplus.ca:

  • All SEDAR data (documents filed after January 1, 2015 are in SEDAR+, older documents are in the SEDAR archive)
  • All historical Cease Trade Orders (CTOs)
  • All historical Disciplined List (DL) data
  • Consolidated reporting issuer list from all provincial and territorial regulators

Eventually, SEDAR+ will also incorporate the other CSA National Systems.

Enhancing the experience

Since the launch of SEDAR+, we have heard a range of feedback about the search experience. It’s important to note that some of the more complex features will be introduced in system updates over the next few quarters.

Some of the search enhancements included in our next product update in early December include the ability to:

  • Select how many search results are seen on a page.
  • Receive search results that are ordered from most recent to least recent, by default.
  • Use new search filters (e.g., search by stock symbol).
  • Be notified when a selected issuer’s continuous disclosure documents are filed.
  • Save a link to an issuer’s profile and documents.
  • Benefit from additional improvements that will simplify the search experience, such as updating explanatory text, field labels and search options.

There will be even more to look forward to in early 2024.

In response to your feedback and questions, we’ve provided two short how-to videos that demonstrate, step-by-step, how to best replicate legacy SEDAR’s issuer and latest filing search until the next round of updates in December.

Creating robust access to information – together

Protecting investors and providing access to public record information are key responsibilities of the CSA. It’s important that we get this right. As we work through this adjustment period, we’d like to thank you for your input and engagement.

We will continue listening, engaging and responding by making ongoing system enhancements, creating new tools and materials to help you find what you’re looking for, and providing support through the CSA Service Desk.
