What’s next for SEDAR+

The launch of SEDAR+ is a major milestone for the CSA and its members – it is a foundational step in our multi-year process to modernize the CSA’s National Systems. With this milestone now complete, we are looking to the future of SEDAR+.

Our vision is one seamless platform across Canada that re-engineers many of the current processes and reduces the time and cost of regulatory compliance. So far, we have consolidated:

  • SEDAR
  • Cease Trade Order (CTO) database
  • Disciplined List (DL) database
  • Certain filings made in paper or in the British Columbia Securities Commission’s eServices system and the Ontario Securities Commission’s electronic filing portal
  • Reporting issuers lists from all provincial and territorial regulators.

The CSA is in the planning stages for the 2024 quarterly application updates and the future replacement of other legacy CSA national IT systems. An important part of this process is considering feedback from industry.

With each update, we will add new features and functionality to the system so we continue to enhance both the filing and public search experience. The first quarterly update will happen in early December 2023 and in early November, we will share additional details in the About SEDAR+ section of the CSA web site.

Looking to the future

Looking further into the future, we will continue on our path to creating one integrated home for Canada’s securities filings and information.

We will incorporate learnings from the launch of SEDAR+ into each future system transition. Our methodical approach will include ensuring stakeholders and users are well-equipped to manage the change, while providing technical support along the way.

Canada’s capital markets are evolving rapidly and becoming increasingly complex. These are necessary steps to ensure we are meeting the needs of investors and capital market participants in our connected world.

For the CSA’s integrated and comprehensive technology approach, SEDAR+ is a leap forward. The door is now open for more improvements, modernized solutions and new digital and data capabilities. This is the beginning of the technology future for the CSA. There is much more to come.
